Far from a simple case studies in business, the origins of texts on luxury started in philosophy from Aristotle the way through to sociology and economics, where it found its more recent home in sociological research studies. However, one of the most overlooked domains for the study of luxury goods is art history. From thriving material cultures that never conceived of art as painting or sculpture seperate to objects of the every day, to historical settings of material cultures in the West, there is ample research that unpicks the unique qualities of objects, how they were made and traded, and their subsequent value and meanings.
